At Mundo Dentistry, we offer fluoride treatments as a part of our comprehensive dental care services. But most of the doubts we have from our patients are, how long after fluoride treatment can I eat? and, can I drink water after fluoride treatment?
Fluoride treatments can strengthen your teeth and prevent tooth decay, but it’s important to follow certain guidelines after the treatment to get the best results.
When Can I eat after fluoride treatment?
One of the most important guidelines recommended by the American Dental Association is to avoid eating or drinking anything for at least 30 minutes after receiving fluoride treatment. Because it can wash away the fluoride before fully condense on your teeth.
After 30 minutes have passed, you can resume your regular eating and drinking habits, but it’s best to stick to soft and cool foods for the first four hours, such as:
- Yogurt
- Smoothies
- Applesauce
- Scramble eggs
- Mashed potatoes
However, we recommend that you avoid consuming any acidic or sugary foods or drinks for at least 4 hours after treatment, for example:
- Hot coffee or tea
- Tomatoes or citrus fruits
- Candy or gum
- Nuts
- Popcorn
- Alcohol drinks
Can I drink water after fluoride treatment?
After receiving a fluoride treatment, it’s important to avoid eating or drinking anything for at least 30 minutes. This includes water, which can wash away the fluoride before it has a chance to fully penetrate the teeth.
Once the 30-minute waiting period is over, you can safely drink water, however, it’s important to avoid acidic drinks like soda, juice, or sports drinks for at least four hours after the treatment, as the acid can counteract the effects of fluoride.
By following these simple guidelines, you can make the most of your fluoride treatment and enjoy a healthier, stronger smile. Are you looking for a fluoride treatment in Fort Mill, Pineville, Charlotte, and Surrounding Areas, scheduled online with us!
